It takes people on both sides of the camera to make a photograph sing — thank you, Marcus, for bringing your light and energy last weekend! 📸 #schexnayderphotography #texasportraits #Grateful #PortraitMagic #SanAntonioPhotographer
Weekly plan for 30-minute beginner vocal lessons (4 weeks — 1 lesson per week). Each lesson includes warm-up, core skills, repertoire work, cool-down, and homework. Aim for steady, safe progress: proper breath support, pitch accuracy, simple phrasing, and healthy technique. Adjust tempo and repertoire to each student’s range and comfort.
Week 1 — Foundations: breath, posture, simple pitch
Goal: establish safe breathing mechanics, posture, and pitch matching.
0:00–3:00 — Check-in (voice condition, goals, any throat tension). Brief talk about daily practice (10–15 min recommended).
3:00–12:00 — Warm-ups (5–9 minutes)
Gentle body alignment and neck/shoulder release (1–2 min).
Diaphragmatic breathing exercises (4–6 breaths): inhale 3–4 counts, expand low ribs/abdomen; exhale 6–8 counts with gentle hiss or “sss” to feel steady airflow.
Lip trills on comfortable pitch, gliding up and down 3–4 times to connect breath and easy phonation.
12:00–22:00 — Core technique (10 min)
Pitch matching: play short piano tones or use a pitch app. Have student sing back single notes at different places in their range (comfortably low, mid, comfortably high). Give instant, positive feedback and small adjustments (jaw, tongue, posture).
5-note scale on “ng” or “m” to encourage forward placement and maintain open throat (start on a comfortable pitch, stepwise up/down).
22:00–27:00 — Repertoire introduction (5 min)
Choose an easy, short song (folk tune, simple pop ballad, or children’s song). Teach melody phrase by phrase, sung gently on neutral vowel (e.g., “ah” or “oo”) to focus on pitch and breath.
27:00–30:00 — Cool-down and homework (3 min)
Gentle hums or lip trills down the range (1–2 min).
Homework: daily 10–15 minute routine — 3–4 min breathing and lip trills, 5 minutes of pitch matching/scales, 5 minutes working through the assigned song one phrase at a time. Note progress in a short practice log.
Week 2 — Supporting sound, vowel shape, simple phrasing
Goal: steady breath support, consistent vowel shapes, and connecting two-phrase lines.
0:00–2:00 — Quick check-in and posture reminder.
2:00–10:00 — Warm-ups (8 min)
Rib/abdomen breathing practice with count variations (inhale 4, hold 1, exhale 6) and gentle “sss” release.
Lip trills with dynamic levels: soft → medium → slightly louder to feel steady airflow.
5–7 note scales on “ng” or “m” focusing on even tone.
10:00–18:00 — Core technique (8 min)
Vowel shaping exercises: practice “ah, eh, ee, oh, oo” on a single pitch, notice jaw and tongue adjustments. Aim for consistent resonance and clarity.
Support drill: sing a short descending phrase keeping a steady exhale count (e.g., sing 4 beats while exhaling for 4-6 counts).
18:00–25:00 — Repertoire & phrasing (7 min)
Continue assigned song; focus on linking two phrases, planning breaths at phrase ends, and maintaining vowel consistency.
Practice singing one phrase softly, then with slightly more volume while keeping tone even.
25:00–30:00 — Cool-down & homework (5 min)
Gentle lip trills and light humming.
Homework: 15 min daily — breathing and lip trills (5 min), vowel exercises (5 min), two repeats through the song focusing on phrase connection and breath placement (5 min). Record one short take on phone to review next lesson.
Week 3 — Range extension, articulation, simple dynamics
Goal: safely explore comfortable top and bottom notes, work on clear diction and dynamic contrast.
0:00–2:00 — Check-in, listen to student’s homework recording and give one or two focused comments.
2:00–12:00 — Warm-ups (10 min)
Full-body release, breathing with 4–6 breath cycles.
Lip trills gliding from low to high and back (sirens) within comfortable range, avoiding strain.

Walking through Roman ruins in Morocco — what was once grand, bustling, and official now lies in quiet rubble. There’s a weight to that contrast: the sweep of columns, the curve of an arch, the rhythm of stone that still reads as “Roman” no matter where you stand. Travel moments like this make me grateful to witness how history leaves its mark.

Hello Roberto,
Just a friendly reminder that I'm available whenever you’d like to schedule headshot sessions for your graduates. I’d love to help create professional images they can use for all their business needs.
If you have preferred dates or times, let me know and I’ll work to reserve a spot that fits your schedule. I have already received the $450 for the session. I will be donating the remainder of the session-related costs to the Therapeutic Justice Foundation. The session includes 3 to 5 minute sessions per person (totaling 50 people) with 3 edited digital images per person delivered in an online gallery.
Looking forward to putting a date on the calendar and working with your graduates!
Warmly,
Kami / Schexnayder Photography
